DFDS Côte Des Flandres and Côte Des Dunes: Two ship interior refurbishment by Trimline
When Europe’s leading ferry operator needed two ships to undergo extreme makeovers as well as rebranding to be incorporated into their growing fleet, leading outfitter Trimline was the obvious choice.
The work on DFDS’s latest cross Channel ferries, Côte des Flandres and Côte des Dunes was undertaken at the Damen Shipyard in Dunkirk during an 84-day dry dock.
The largescale refurbishment across the two ships required the manufacture and installation of high-quality serveries and bars in the public areas which needed to be delivered in a very short timescale. A total of over 63,000 man-hours ensured that the two ships were completed in 84 days.
Trimline spent considerable effort cost engineering the project from an early stage whilst working closely with DFDS and the designers to ensure that the brief was adhered to using innovative solutions and all within the agreed budget.
This amazing transformation of both ships was the result of a collaborative working relationship between Trimline and DFDS, which was established during previous projects – giving DFDS confidence in choosing Trimline for the double ship refurbishment.
Superior project management is part of Trimline’s company ethos. For this project the preparation started with working closely with DFDS and designers SMC to ensure detailed planning took place early on, to get an accurate scope of the work needed across the two ships, and how each one’s needs differed. This meant that both ships could be signed off on time and on budget. Trimline had to cost engineer the project from the early stages by looking for solutions that would give DFDS the best product possible, but importantly still come in on budget.
The large-scale refurbishment across the two ships has not been without its challenges, including the manufacturing and installation of high-quality serveries and bars in the public areas which were turned around in a very short timeframe. In total Trimline provided skilled tradesmen including joinery, electrics, plumbing, catering, HVAC, and signage, as well as experienced on-site project managers that could find solutions to any issue.
Some project statistics:
- 34,000 litres of paint
- 1000m² of tiling
- 4500m² carpet
- 5500m² Amtico flooring
- 2470 chairs
- 714 tables
- 880m² LED rope lights
- 282 light fittings
- 21km cabling
We needed a trusted partner who would be able to create a high quality interior for our ships on a tight timeframe. I have been extremely impressed with both the professionalism and the high quality output from the Trimline team. The ships look amazing and are proving very popular with our customers.”
